What’s In Your Shampoo? Hair Health, And Hair Loss Prevention Using Natural Products
We do our shopping and purchase our hair care products and assume we are doing the right things for hair health.
Through promotion and marketing we are led to believe that some of the products available today are things we just can’t do without. But is that really true?
To find the answer you must first look at the structure of hair. Below the skin is the hair follicle, the sebaceous gland and blood vessels.
The hair itself is made up of protein. When you brush your hair it causes the sebaceous gland to produce sebum. This oily substance coats and protects the hair from the elements.
It also stimulates the blood vessels to provide the nourishment your hair needs. Brushing your hair and or massaging the scalp are beneficial to hair health.
With commercial products, most shampoos and conditioners contain harsh chemicals and synthetic products. In shampoos, that means it can over clean your hair and strip it of its precious oils. Now you need to condition it to replace the oils. It can harm the scalp and hair follicles.
It is the same with laundry detergents. They are loaded with fillers and less actual soap so that they can sell you more detergent. It’s a money making strategy that has worked so they will continue to do so.
Now if you are like most people, you’ve read the labels but don’t have a clue as to what the ingredients really are and what their function is. Here it is in layman’s terms:
1) Distereate and propylene glycol or glycol are petroleum based (crude oil). They are very cheap which is why they are widely used in the cosmetic industry.
2) Isopropyl alcohol is another very cheap solvent.
3) Propylparaben or Methylparen are preservatives that are synthetic. The human body typically does not understand synthetic, it understands organic.
4) Cetearyl alcohol is an emulsifier and it can be natural or synthetic. Synthetic is often used because it’s cheaper and easier to produce.
These petrochemicals are absorbed through the skin, then down through the organs and tissues.
Many believe that long term exposure to these toxins can cause permanent damage anywhere in the body, and yet, governments have sided with big industry
to not require them to disclose what these products contain or what they really are. Instead we have big fancy names you can hardly pronounce let alone understand.
The solution? It’s not as hard as you think. It’s as close as you health food store or even your own fridge. Here are some tips:
1) Buy a natural liquid soap from the health food store. Also purchase some essential oils such as lavender (for all hair types), rosemary,
clary sage, cedar wood, birch and peppermint (for hair loss) bergamot, rosewood, eucalyptus etc. Also purchase natural oils such as olive, jojoba, or avocado.
Here’s what to do; in a clean spray bottle, pour in about ½ a cup of distilled or spring water. Add 1 cup of liquid soap.
Then take 2 tsp of your vegetable oil and add 10 to 20 drops of your chosen essential oils. It can be just one or several combined oils. Shake gently.
There you have it. Simple as that! (Essential oils always need to be in a vegetable oil base because of its concentration). You should not need a cream rinse after that because oils will be replaced.
2) If you need deep conditioning, try saturating your hair in mayonnaise or warmed olive oil. Wrap tightly and cover with a shower cap and let rest on the hair for approximately 20 minutes, then rinse out.
You can also take 2 egg yolks and whisk them until frothy, then add some warm water. Pour over hair and leave on for 2 minutes then rinse well.
3) It’s a good idea to do a final rinse on your hair with something acidic such as cider vinegar, lemon juice, beer or even milk.
Add any of these ingredients with some water to rinse your hair with to restore the alkaline/acid balance of your hair and scalp, and take off any residue you may have left on your hair.
There are many good natural recipes for healthy hair but these are a few things to get you started in the right direction.
Experiment with different essential and vegetable oils to find what you like best. Natural, your body understands, so here’s to a good hair day!
Hair Loss Shampoo: A Cheaper Solution to Your Dilemma
Most people will think that hair loss is closely associated with old age. Yes, it may be but then it may not also. Confusing? Nah. Some people in a very young age experience a tremendous hair loss.
Medical research though asserts that hair fall is quite normal because an average hair fall of up to 200 hair strands in a day is acceptable. But if there is so much than that, it now gives you a reason to panic and seek the help of the experts.
Dealing with hair loss is not at all easy. It is not simply the same with dealing with a bad haircut. A bad haircut can be remedied.
You can likewise only wait for a while before it gets back to its normal growth. But a hair loss is entirely different. Having too much visible hair loss is a thing to hate.
Who wants to go out almost as bald-looking as a bird can be? Who would want to look old in the first place? Hair loss confronts both men and women regardless of their ages.
But then again, it would be easier for someone who is in his or her 60s to deal with the hair loss dilemma compared to a person under 30 years old.
More so, women are more prone to hair loss than it is with men. Men can accept the fact that at a certain point in their lives, they will be facing the problem.
Would you not look better with plenty of hair? Then you can always get a treatment for your hair loss problem.
Hair loss shampoos come in a variety. These products are recognized by specialists to aid you in growing back your hair.
Those of you who want to maintain a good looking aura will obviously be very willing to spend money on hair loss shampoos.
It is not after all only a matter of looking good. It is more of feeling good inside and out. So that you will not be wasting money on any hair loss shampoo, why not try researching things first?
What you must first deal with is finding out the real cause of your hair loss. This is essential as it is that which determines the right hair loss shampoo for you to use.
Some of the most common causes of hair loss are stress, pregnancy, genetic background, and hair pulling.
Most probably, the most obvious cause for hair loss is the plugged hair follicle and this can easily be remedied by hair loss shampoo. Take note that you must beware regarding the publicity stunts of most hair loss shampoo.
They would always claim that they can be trusted
when it comes to solving your problem when in fact they cannot help you at all. The best thing for you to do is to get to a specialist who can prescribe you the proper hair loss shampoo to use.
If the hair loss problem is now on a higher level and cannot in any way be solved by the hair loss shampoo, specialists recommend the hair transplantation method.
This is almost a hundred percent effective but very expensive too. Before you make up your mind when it comes to the surgery, first get several opinions from the specialists. They can give you some less expensive alternatives.
Obviously, the hair loss shampoo is cheaper. Hair loss is not a thing to be ignored. Better act on it while it is still early.
Choosing The Right Shampoo For Your Hair Type
There are hundreds of shampoo‘s out there, from the Suave you can purchase at the local pharmacy to designer shampoo‘s like Kerastas and Philip B. that can only be purchased from speciality salons and stores. How do you choose?
First, know your hair type. It’s fairly easy to know what type of shampoo your hair needs if it’s permed or colored.
If your hair is permed then most likely you’re seeing a stylist on a regular basis and he or she has suggested a product for you.
If your hair is colored you will want a shampoo that will be gentle on the color and not strip it from your hair. Is your hair dry? Oily? Thin or full and coarse?
What affect do you want the shampoo to have on your hair? Be aware of claims made by shampoo manufacturers.
The only thing regulated by the Food & Drug Administration is the list of ingredients on the back of the shampoo bottle. This means that manufacturers can claim their shampoos moisturize or add volume whether or not they do.
Herbs and botanicals smell great, but their affect on the hair has never been proven. Actually most shampoos and conditioners affect your hair only temporarily by leaving product behind on your hair after you wash.
They have no long term effect on the condition of your hair at all.
Don’t believe that you have to use one manufacturers entire hair product line. It’s the same for skin care products. All shampoos clean the hair.
All soaps clean the face. All conditioners leave a trace of product on your hair which help keep the cuticle smooth. All moisturizes soften and moisturize the skin. It doesn’t matter if you mix and match products, despite what they say.
Why Dandruff Shampoo Can Prevent Thinning Hair?
At any one time, about 10 percent of the hair on your scalp is in a resting phase. After 2 to 3 months, the resting hair falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place.
This growing phase lasts for 2 to 6 years. Each hair grows approximately 1 centimeter per month during this phase. About 90 percent of the hair on your scalp is growing at any one time.
Hair loss is a common problem among men and women. About 25 percent of men begin balding by age 30 and two-thirds begin losing hair by age 60, according to the American Medical Association.
A number of things can cause excessive hair loss. For example, about 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you may suddenly lose a large amount of hair. This hair loss is related to the stress of the illness and is temporary.
Hormonal problems may cause hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment of the thyroid disease.
Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss.
Dandruff is one of the causes of Hair loss. Dandruff is caused by a fungus known as malazzesia globosa. This fungus is commonly found floating in the air which is why dandruff can be treated, but not cured.
Studies have shown that with only 90 minutes of continuous scratching by the fingernails, it is possible to remove all of the cuticular scale, a protective covering on individual hairs, off of a hair shaft.
This loss leaves the hair shaft weakened and permanently damaged, making it easily susceptible to breakage and hair loss.
“The most effective dandruff shampoos and conditioners contain zinc pyrithione,” advised Dr. Draelos.
“These ingredients leave behind thin plate-like pieces of medicine on the scalp to prevent regrowth of the fungus, thus acting as a preventive measure for both dandruff and the hair loss associated with scratching.”
Therefore, don’t just ignore the itch, invest in proper treatment.
At Home Hair Care To Save Money
Beauty can be a very renewing activity that anyone can enjoy doing. However, for a beginner, those products or brushes can be very intimidating pieces of equipment to handle.
So, what should a novice do to learn how to use them? Well, read the tips below, of course!
Wearing sunscreen is a fool-proof way to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. When you are comparing different brands and types of sunscreen,
you should look for products that contain healthy skincare ingredients and antioxidants. These ingredients nourish the skin while protecting it, keeping it supple and youthful.
If you are struggling with frizzy hair you can try putting a small amount of hand cream in your hands then running it through your hair.
This will help the stray strands stick together and ultimately hold your hair together more as a cohesive whole making you look much more beautiful.
Remove the arch from your eyebrows if you have a problem with dark circles under your eyes. The arch in your eyebrows can create a circular look around your eyes.
This can exaggerate any dark circles you might already have. To remedy this, just tweeze your eyebrows so that they are straighter.
Look for a concealer palette that comes with two different shades of concealer. This allows you to blend a perfectly customized shade that will melt flawlessly into your skin.
Use small dabbing and patting motions to apply the concealer over red areas, broken capillaries, and any other marks or discolored areas.
When applying mascara, wiggle the brush. Many people do not give a second thought to putting on their mascara.
They might also find that their lashes are clumpy and find that they are sticking together. To avoid this, start at the bottom of your lashes with the applicator. Wiggle it all the way to the end of your lashes to keep them separated.
Apply eye shadow to seal in eyeliner. When you are making up your eyes, apply your liner before your eye shadow.
Then, when applying the shadow, slightly dampen a cotton swab and add some eye shadow. Smooth this over the liner and you will find it lasts much longer.
Use the ignition part of a matchbook or box if you don’t have a nail file. If you find yourself in need of a nail file, but can’t seem to find one, you can use the rough part you use to light matches on a match book as a nail file.
So you like the smell of your fancy soap, and just don’t have the heart to use those pretty bars in your bath or shower?
Just put them in your underwear or shirt drawer to capture those scents you love. You will be smelling fresh and clean all day long.
Now you should be able to see why beauty can be such an enjoyable activity to do for yourself. There is so much fun and renewal
to experience as one tries to re-create or re-work their personal appearance. With these tips in mind, you can start beautifying yourself like a pro!
